MAPI email errors with MYOB

A question from Mulligrubber Lynette today

I am trying to send invoices via emails from my MYOB program and it keeps telling me to check my mapi.
I did this last year no problems.  I use Windows Live email.

LYNETTE

The Messaging Application Programming Interface or MAPI is the way in which your email program can interact with other programs to send emails. More details at Wikipedia here

In this case Lynette wants to produce an invoice in the accounting program MYOB and then automatically attach it to an email ready to issue

MAPI can be a tricky beast and it is a known problem that MYOB only supports Outlook email (the full Outlook that's part of MS Office not Outlook Express). Refer to the details here at the MYOB Community page.

A quick Google search revels the following as 1 suggested method of solving the problem which involves confirming the Windows Live mail is your default email program

Go to Control Panel;

 - Open Internet Options

 - Go to the 'programs' TAB

 - Click on 'Set Programs'

 - Click on 'Set Program access and defaults'

 - Click on 'Custom' and expand the drop down

 - Under 'Choose a 'default mail program', select 'Live Mail'

If that doesn't work the MYOB page has a couple of suggested fixes as does this page at Whirlpool.

Last but not least the manual method will always work and some people may prefer this anyway. To send the emails manually issue your invoice in MYOB and then rather than hitting 'Send to Email' hit 'Send/Save to PDF'. Then once the pdf is saved somewhere go and write a new email and attach the document before sending. A little bit longer but guaranteed to work!

Hope that helps and by the way - our invoice is in the mail (just kidding)

Those people who take the time and initiative to pursue knowledge on their own are the only ones who earn a real education in this world.  Take a look at any widely acclaimed scholar, entrepreneur or historical figure you can think of.  Formal education or not, you’ll find that he or she is a product of continuous self-education.

A very interesting article about improvements in the new release of Ubuntu Linux. The system is becoming easier to use and works well for most users once you 'acclimatise' to the differences. Given the low resource usage Linux continues to be a better choice for older hardware.

Google launches movies in Australia - watch full-length movies free at YouTube

Details from PCauthority site

Google has launched a new movie rental service in Australia through Google Play and YouTube, granting Android users access to "thousands" of local and international movies.

"We have launched Movies on Google Play (play.google.com/movies) and a brand new Movies page on YouTube for Australia (youtube.com.au/movies), where you can rent thousands of films from both Hollywood and local Aussie studios," said Google's Felicity Mcvay in a statement.

In addition to making selections on the YouTube and Google Play websites, customers can also rent and watch movies on their handheld Android devices using the Google Play Movies app. Movies can be downloaded to the device so they’re available for viewing during the rental period without an internet connection.

Currently, the service offers movies from Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures, NBCUniversal, Village Roadshow Pictures and Lionsgate, alongside local Australian distributors including Roadshow Films, Madman Entertainment and Hopscotch?.

Pricing falls roughly in line with other movie rental services in Australia, with new releases available at $5.99 and $6.99 for standard definition and HD, respectively. Older 'library' movies at $3.99 for standard definition and $4.99 for high definition.

Viewers will be given 30 days to begin watching their rental, with 48 hours to finish once they click play.

I did a quick look through and the new and recent movies available to rent are quite reasonable. I think that the 30 days to commence viewing and 48 hours to watch is better than some. Telstra Bigpond movies only allow you 24 hours to watch or re-watch a rented movie.

Note these movies will require a reasonable broadband internet connection to watch successfully. If watching YouTube videos is slow and stuttering for you then these will be the same.

What was surprising though was what was available to watch for free. Go here to see the hundreds of movies that you can watch for no cost - Free Google Movies. There are quite a lot of very old movies but many of them feature all the stars of Hollywood - John Wayne, Jackie Chan, Charlie Chaplin, Bruce Lee, WC Fields, Danny Kaye, Richard Pryor, Kim Carrey and The 3 Stooges are all available for free. You won't want to watch everything but I bet there's something there you will like and a few you have seen before. There are also some recent documentaries and 'world movies' that may take your interest. I highly recommend you take a look.
